Miller and CTP given go-ahead in Glasgow

Work on the œ170 million leisure and business development at Pacific Quay, the site of the former Glasgow Garden Festival, is set to start later this year. Planning approval has just been secured for the development which is situated close to the city centre. The joint developers, Miller Developments and CTP, expect to have the first leisure phase operational within 12 months.

The developers plan a range of attractions which will be built over a five year period.

Attractions planned for the 17.4ha site include a National Science Centre, IMAX theatre, multi-screen cinema and various restaurants and bars. MGM Cinemas has already been lined up for the nine-screen cinema, which will be the first part of the scheme to be built.

The business park will eventually provide 32,000m2 of modern office accommodation.

A spokesman for the development said that some of the restaurants and bars and the three star hotel will probably start soon after the MGM cinema. Some speculative office development is also likely to go-ahead at the business park.

The contract approach will be flexible and geared to suit the requirements of the individual operators. Some will bring in their own contractors, while others may take advantage of what the developers can offer.

Miller Developments' sister company, Miller Construction, is obviously in a good position to win work.
