œ33m swimming centre for Wigan

A œ33 million swimming centre is on the cards for Wigan. The Metropolitan Borough Council given notice that it intends to invite tenders for the project later in the year.

The scheme will comprise a 50m international standard competition swimming pool, a diving pool, a leisure/training water facility, dry sports hall, fitness suite and associated swimming and leisure facilities. Other works include car parking, bridges, roads and landscaping.

The present timetable proposes an invite to tender in October with a start on site in January 1998. Completion is scheduled for June 2000.
