Laing wins Cardiff Arms Park contract
John Laing has beaten off competition from Taylor Woodrow to design
and construct the Millennium Stadium at Cardiff Arms Park for the
Welsh Rugby Union and Cardiff County Council. The scheme has a
total project value of œ114 million and has secured a œ46
million grant from the Millennium Commission.
Laing is expected to start work on the project in autumn this year.
The new stadium will accommodate 75,000 spectators and features a
retractable roof, along with a range of media facilities, medical,
fitness and physiotherapy suites. It will be built alongside the
existing Cardiff Arms Park and finished in time for Wales to host
the 1999 Rugby World Cup. Lead designer is the Lobb Partnership.
