West End opening for Lovell

Lovell Construction has seen off a bid by Wates Construction to win
the œ20 million contract to redevelop 1 St James's Square in
London's West End for NatWest Properties.
The speculative office development will provide 9,290m2 of new office space, taking in 1 St James's Square and the adjoining 6-7 Charles II Street.
Architects Sheppard Robson have been able to design a regular single floor plate of around 1,300m2.
The seven-storey building will be clad in natural stone and brick, with a slate roof.
Internally, the new building will feature air conditioning, raised floors and an entrance and reception area clad in marble and granite.
Structural engineer is Mott McDonald; mechanical and services engineer is Oscar Faber; QS is John Shreeves & Partners and programme consultants are Cyril Sweett and TE Scudder. Completion is scheduled for spring 1998.
