Centre of attention

Tarmac has begun work on the first phase of a œ20 million redevelopment in Bootle Town centre. The scheme comprises a 7,432m2 extension to Land Securities existing 32,516m2 Strand Shopping Centre, a new integral bus station, 1,000 car parking spaces and major highway improvements.

Tarmac's contract covers the highway improvements and car parking and will be completed within one year. The second phase, which includes the retail extension, is due to open in autumn 1998. The scheme is a partnership between Land Securities, English Partnerships, European Regional Development Fund, Merseytravel and Bootle Maritime City Challenge.
