Connect wins second DBFO
The Highways Agency was expected to announce this week that the
Connect consortium of Balfour Beatty/Philipp Holzmann/ WS Atkins
has secured its second DBFO road project.
As tipped by CJ (30 May 1996), Connect has been awarded the
œ75 million A30/A35 Exeter to Bere Regis scheme in Devon and
Dorset. The project involves the A30 Honiton to Exeter improvement,
and the A35 Tolpuddle to Puddletown bypass.
Connect was awarded the œ21 million A50/A564 Stoke to Derby
link in May 1996. Balfour Beatty is involved in three DBFO schemes,
as it stepped in to partner Trafalgar House on the œ300
million M1-A1 link road following Wimpey's withdrawal from the
project.
Six DBFO schemes have been awarded in England with two remaining in
Tranche 1a. The œ40 million M40 widening contract is tipped to
go to UK Highways (Laing/Tarmac) and the œ30 million A19/A168
project to Autolink (Amey/Sir Robert McAlpine/Taylor
Woodrow).
The only other outstanding DBFO road project is the œ190
million A74(M) upgrade in Scotland, from Carlisle to the Scots
border.
Four consortia returned bids for the scheme earlier this month.
