Atcare wins third health bid
The Atcare Consortium of WS Atkins and Alfred McAlpine has seen off
a rival bid by Kier/ISS Mediclean to be selected as preferred
bidder for the œ20 million PFI scheme to redevelop Roch-dale
Infirmary.
The Atcare Consortium, which also includes Pall Mall Services, will
now negotiate with Rochdale Healthcare NHS Trust to finalise
detailed designs for a scheme to centralise acute hospital services
from Birch Hill Hospital onto the Infirmary site.
Atcare and the Trust will also work up a full business case which
will be submitted to Bury & Rochdale Health Authority, the NHS
Executive and the Treasury for approval.
The scheme is expected to start on site as early as possible in
1997 and is scheduled for completion by early 1999.
Rochdale is the third PFI healthcare project for which Atcare has
been selected as preferred bidder.
The other two are the œ50 million Hereford County Hospital and
the œ50 million Wythensawe Hospital project in Manchester.
