New cement enquiry
The House of Commons Environment Committee has ann-ounced that it
is to hold enquiries into contaminated land and the environmental
impact of cement manufacturing.
Last week CJ reported on fears that pollutants and heavy metals
could leach out from building products made from cement
manufactured in kilns burning liquid chemcial waste.
The committee will hold a single oral evidence session in
Westminster on 27 November.
It will also look at whether the revised draft statutory guidance
on the contamination of land fulfils the purposes of the
Environment Act 1995. The guidance is due to be published this
month and the committee will hold two oral evidence sessions on 16
and 23 October.
