Relayfast buys WTRC
British Rail has sold its Western Track Renewals Company to
Relayfast, the management and employee buy-out that purchased
Scotland TRC in February this year.
Relayfast stepped in after SECO, the original French preferred
bidder, failed to complete a deal. Other second round bidders were
Amec, Tarmac and First Engineering.
WTRC specialises in track renewal work and the provision of
specialist heavy plant. Based in Swindon, it covers 3,290 miles of
track between London, south west England and South Wales.
The deal, which is for an undisclosed sum, makes Relayfast one of
Britain's biggest track renewals concerns, with 800 employees.
