Miller buys Wimpey Mining
The Miller Group's purchase of Wimpey Mining will make it the UK's
leading opencast coal contractor with a combined turnover of
œ40 million.
Announcing the deal last week, Keith Miller, chief executive of the
Miller Group, said: "Wimpey Mining is an excellent strategic fit
with our existing mining business.
"The market is tough at the moment, with not enough new sites
coming out, but we hope to see one or two new developments
soon."
Wimpey Mining, whose turnover is over œ20 million, operates
five sites: Ffos Las, Gilfach Iago and Great White Tip - all in
South Wales - for Celtic Energy; Bleak House near Cannock,
Staffordshire, and Ryne Hill, Durham - for RJB Mining.
The consolidation will make Miller one of the largest earthmoving
contractors in Europe. Miller Mining is also active overseas. It is
currently pursuing new contracts in Indonesia.
