Three set to fight for œ45m project

Three consortia have been shortlisted for a œ45 million Private Finance Initiative healthcare project to redevelop Pinderfield Hospital at Wakefield, Yorkshire.

The consortia are: The Hospital Company - Tarmac, United Medical Enterprises, Tarmac ServiceMaster; The Atcare Consortium - WS Atkins, Norweb, Gardiner Merchant, KPMG, DAC; The Health Management Group - Amec, Building and Property Facilities Management.

The project involves the redevelopment of the whole Pinderfield Hospital site, centralising hospital services from three sites onto one. The scheme may involve a phased demolition and complete rebuilding or a combination of new build and refurbishment.

A total of 56.5ha of land is involved in the scheme. At least half of this could be freed up and will probably be available for redevelopment as part of the financial package needed to fund the project.
