Severn Trent fined œ10,800
Severn Trent Water has been fined œ10,800 after pleading
guilty to 18 offences under the New Roads and Street Works
Act.
The prosecution followed a site inspection in the Barnby Gate area
of Newark in October 1995, where contractor MP Burke was carry out
mains renewal work on behalf of Severn Trent.
Numerous deficiencies were identified, particularly over poor
safety measures.
The case, heard in Newark Magistrates' Court on 15 July 1996, was
brought by Nottinghamshire County Council. Sentencing was deferred
until this week. Severn Trent was also ordered to pay œ2,000
costs.
