SIAC steeled for global challenge
SIAC Construction, one of Ireland's largest civil engineering
construction groups, has moved into the steel fabrication business
with the purchase of Butlers' former steel plant in Portarlington
for œ5 million.
Butlers Steel went into receivership in February this year.
Finn Kyden, md of SIAC Construction, said there was a natural link
between steel fabrication and SIAC's existing roofing and cladding
business.
"Being able to source and supply high quality structural steel
quickly will enable us to fastrack major projects," Kyden said. "We
have the strategy to challenge for contracts in the UK, European
and Middle East markets.
"We anticipate that more than 50% of orders will be sourced from
outside Ireland."
In April SIAC formed a strategic alliance with Dutch group Romein
Staalbouw to bid for œ1 million-plus contracts in the Middle
East.
