Trafalgar wins contract

Trafalgar House Water Projects has been awarded a œ12.5 million contract for the design and construction of a sewage treatment works at Colne Bridge in Huddersfield.

Capital gains

Around 66% of chartered surveyor estate agents saw an increase in price in London over the three months to the end of July, according to a survey by the RICS. Some 60% saw rise in the South East and 56% in the South West. Prices in Wales, the North and North West remained static.

Spackman to retire

Bovis Construction Group Vice-Chairman Chris Spack-man is to retire in December, after 41 years service. He began as a trainee in 1955, eventually becoming the first md of Bovis Europe in 1994 and group vice chairman at the end of 1995.

New grants policy

The Housing Corporation has issued new policy and procedural changes for the 1997-98 bidding round for capital and revenue grants. Bidders' prospective rent levels will be at the forefront of the bidding process for 1997-98.

A Mace idea

The construction industry's annual Burns Night Supper, held at London's Savoy Hotel, raised more than œ14,500 for St Bartholomew's Children's Cancer Research Fund. The evening was organised by construction management specialist Mace.

Traffic warning

The Council for the Protection of Rural England is warning that traffic levels are rising in the countryside. The CPRE wants lower speed limits, traffic calming measures and more money put into rural public transport.
