Groundforce, the ground engineering subsidiary of Vibroplant, is to
replace its entire stock of heavy duty trench sheeting with a new
product introduced by British Steel.
The L40 trench sheet has been developed by Ayrton Godins, part of
British Steel Narrow Strip, and is claimed to produce significant
cost savings through its high damage resistance, as well as
performance benefits.
It is claimed that the damage resistance properties of the product
not only affords advantages in downtime reduction on site, but also
reduces the time and cost requirements of dealing with damages
claims. The company also said that the sheets also drive well and
are lighter and easier to handle, providing more scope for cost
savings on site.
The design engineers at Ayrton Godins aimed to create a sheet with
a strength to weight ratio and symmetry to give an optimum mix of
strength, weight, driveability and resistance.
Several combinations of steel grade and depth of section were
evaluated before the optimum design was reached. The result uses
4.5mm high tensile steel of XF450 grade with a pan depth of 85mm.
