Militant group has first meet
A revived militant Joint Sites Committee held its first formal
meeting in London last week to identify targets for industrial
action.
Rank and file union members at the meeting said their two main
areas of current concern were the failure of employers to give
proper notice of dismissal and the implications for rates of pay of
a return to direct employment.
Spearheading the JSC revival is Michael Dooley, who was recently
involved in a row over tea break cuts with bricklaying specialist
Lyons and Annoot (CJ 29 August).
Dooley commented: "It was a very enthusiastic meeting. And I think
the committee can start to make an impact over the next couple of
months. There are a number of problems that the unions are not
dealing with effectively."
