New dangerous chemicals guidance released by HSE
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published new guidance on
the use of seven hazardous chemical substances.
The seven documents published in the EH72 series covers the
chemicals phenylhydrazine; dimethylaminoethanol; bromoethane;
3-chloropropene; a-chlorotoluene; 2-furaldehyde and 1,2
diaminoethane.
Each document is divided into two sections. Section One is a
summary of the risk assessment presented in Section Two. The
documents contain a thorough critical assessment of the available
information on the health hazards of exposure to each substance,
occupational exposure to the substance and the workplace risks
associated with each substance.
The documents carry information on how to measure the substances in
the workplace atmosphere and how to monitor workers' levels of
exposure to the substances. They also provide the HSE's Working
Group on the Assessment of Toxic Chemicals (WATCH) view on a limit
for each substance, based on the risk assessment data in the
documents.
