The œ54 million International Centre of Life in Newcastle is
inviting contractors to prequalify for the second phase of the
project.
The œ15-20 million single building will house a Genetics Institute, a visitor attraction, retail premises and associated support facilities.
The client is the Tyne and Wear Development Corporation.
The two stage tender involves the partial design and construction of the 16,000m2 building with around 13,000m2 of external works.
The contract may also include a œ5 million fit-out contract. Work is scheduled to start in autumn 1997 for completion in autumn 1999.
Laing Construction is currently at work on phase one - the œ8.1 million Bio-Science Centre.
