An A1 invitation

The Scottish Office is to invite tenders in the next two months for a œ30-35 million road scheme on the A1 between Edinburgh and Berwick upon Tweed.

The scheme calls for the design, construction and maintenance of a 14km, two-lane dual carriageway with two grade separated junctions, some 30km south east of Edinburgh.

The scheme terminates in an at-grade roundabout on the existing A1 single carriageway road. The work is due to start in July 1998 and be complete by July 2000. The contract will be let on a fixed price, lump sum basis. Payment will be made by instalments on interim valuations based on achieved milestones.
