Bouygues back into profit
French construction giant Bouygues has got back into profit, making
œ70 million in 1996 after a record loss of œ310 million
the previous year.
The group, headed by Martin Bouygues, forecasts turnover in 1997 to
climb to œ8.7 billion, a rise of œ300 million.
Dragages Et Travaux Publics (DTP), a Bouygues subsidiary, has won a
design and build contract to construct a new railway station in
Kuala Lumpur, DTP's half share in the venture runs to œ170
million. The station will be used for mainline trains, a light
metro and the high-speed train system.
Bouygues is one of three French construction groups currently
talking to Chilean president Eduardo Frie who wants them to bid for
infrastructure projects in Chile with a total value of œ1.3
billion. They are mainly road, air, marine, rail and water
treatment schemes.
The two other French contractors lining up work in Chile are
Alcatel and Lyonnaise des Eaux.
