Hewden acquires A&J
Hewden Stuart has acquired the business and assets of A&JCrane
Hire, Nottingham, for an undisclosed sum. The operation will
relocate to a new purpose-built depot in Nottingham.

West Sussex based Brinsbury College is expanding its provision for
the construction plant industry, by becoming one of two pilot
centres offering the EDEXCEL Foundation's BTEC NVQ's for
supervision Level 3 and management at Level 4. This week's SED '97
marks the enrollment of the course's first recruit, Nicholas
Gamble, quality manager of Gamble Jarvis Plant. Gamble is one of
several managers at the company who have been put forward by md Ian
Gamble to undertake the course.
BHP's compressor spree
North Lincolnshire-based plant hire company, BPH Equipment, has
spent more than œ500,000 on portable compressors. The new
compressors comprise a mixture of Atlas Copco VHP750 and XP900
models. BPH, which claims 30-40 per cent of its hire contracts now
come from the industrial market as opposed to construction, hires
out compressors up to 25.5m3/min; piling hammers; crawler cranes up
to 150 tonne and portable generators up to 1250 kVA.
new staffs bobcat dealer
Robert Lee Plant Sales of Stafford has become the new dealer for
Bobcat skid-steer loaders and mini-excavators in Shropshire and
Staffordshire. The company has recruited sales and engineering
staff as part of its new venture. Roy Harrison, who has dealt with
Bobcat products for more than 20 years, has been appointed depot
manager.
matbro telehandlers help expansion
After trialing a Matbro TS280 telehandler for 12 months Hydrex
Equipment (UK) has ordered a further 12 machines for its growing
plant hire business. The Avon-based company, which recently
announced a œ13 million expansion plan in conjunction with
venture capital group 3i, placed an initial order for six 7m TS280s
in February, followed by a similar order in April.
mole for hire
Pitmole, the new pit-launched directional drilling rig from Steve
Vick International, is now available on hire. The machine, which
can be launched from a pit chamber just 1.65m x 1m, has been
designed primarily for laying pipes, ducts and cables under
roadways in congested urban areas. The rig develops a maximum
thrust of 3 tonnes and is capable of installing pipe up to 125mm in
diameter.
montabert importer name change
As from the 1 June 1997, the sole importer of Montabert products
will be known as IP Equipment Sales. The importer used to be called
Improved Performances (UK). The company which was recently acquired
by Israel-based Zoko Group, is keen to expand. Having opened a
depot in Southampton for sales and rental of breakers, it is also
setting up in West London to further support its direct sales and
rental operation in the South.
buckle to head andover sales team
Hampshire-based trailer manufacturer Andover Trailers has appointed
Simon Buckle as national sales manager. Buckle has 18 years
experience in the transport industry, including vehicle
bodybuilding, trailer design, purchasing and sales.
