steel prices rise 4 per cent
British Steel has announced that UK prices for structural steel
sections will rise by œ15 per tonne from 29 June. The move
represents an increase of some 4 per cent on average and is said to
be the first list price change since March 1994.

Steel framed building specialist Atlas Ward Structures has been
acquired by its management from Kingspan for œ11.3 million,
backed with œ3.9 million of equity funding from the Leeds
office of investment capital group 3i.
œ8m Leeds school tenders
An invitation to tender has gone out for œ7 million to œ8
million of refurbishment at Cardinal Heenan High School in Leeds.
The deadline for tenders on a design, build, operate and finance
basis work has been set at June 10 1997. The project manager is
Brian Grew of Manchester-based Povall Flood and Wilson.

road congestion worse
Road congestion has reached epic proportions and continues to
worsen, according to the latest Quarterly Transport Activity Survey
from the Freight Transport Association. Some 43 per cent of
respondents to the FTA survey reported worse congestion than at the
same time last year.
Taywood part of euroteam
Taywood Engineering is part of a pan-European team participating in
a new œ2.6 million Brite Euram project. The three year project
dubbed "EuroLighcon" is aimed to establish how structural concrete
made with lightweight aggregates can be used to best effect.
Hyder's west coast study
Hyder Consulting is conducting feasibility studies for Railtrack on
11 railway underbridges on the West Coast Main Line between Penrith
and Carlisle in Cumbria. The work includes producing scheme designs
for remedial work with associated construction methodologies as
well as risk and environmental impact assessments. Hyder are also
taking on new staff with Roger Eyrre the latest to join the
Technical Directorate at the office in Plymouth, Devon.
Summers called in to northern utilities
Summers Project Management have been called in by Northern Electric
and Northumbrian Water to help implement health and safety
regulations at more than 400 of their sites. The Workplace (Health,
Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1996 require the appraisal of
ventilation, lighting, heating and tripping hazards.
Bucknall grows german operation
BUCKNALL Group plc has increased its holding in the German market
by acquiring 50 per cent of Bucknall GmbH from FGV Gewerbebau
Verwaltungs GmBH for a cash consideration of DMK 50,000
(œ18,000). In the last financial year Bucknall GmBh made
profits before tax of DMK 289,000 (œ103,000) on a turnover of
DMK 2,681,000 (œ953,000).
