Balfour Beatty set to build œ25m Salford tax haven

Balfour Beatty's Northern Construction Division is to undertake the design and construction of a œ25 million office development for the Inland Revenue at Chapel Wharf in Salford.

The project is part of a œ43 million Private Finance Initiative development awarded to London & Regional Properties and Balfour Beatty in last August. The scheme involves relocating 2000 Inland Revenue civil servants working in the Manchester area.

The new offices will provide seven floors of open-plan office accommodation, with restaurant, gym, conference and meeting rooms and administration areas.

The building was designed by architect Leach Rhodes Walker to maximise the use of natural daylight and ventilation, resulting in a modified H-shaped building.
