Maunsell has been appointed consultant by the Water Supplies
Department of the Hong Kong government for the extension of water
supply to the existing Ma On Shan and the Shau Kei Wan High Level
Supply Systems.
The purpose of the scheme is to augment and extend the existing
water supply systems in order to meet increased demands for both
fresh and flushing water by new housing developments in these
areas.
In Ma On Shan, the scope of the works will comprise the
construction of some 12km of fresh and salt water mains, a 24,000m3
fresh service reservoir, a 1,400m3 salt water service reservoir and
the associated monitoring and control facilities. In Shau Kei Wan
some 4.7km of mains, an 8,500m3 fresh water service reservoir and a
500m3 salt water reservoir will be constructed. The works are all
programmed to be commissioned by early 2002.
CDM is Maunsell's sub-consultant responsible for the E&M works
and the works in Shau Kei Wan. Other team members include Maunsell
Geotechnical Services, Enpac (for environmental work), Hassell (for
landscaping) and the Maunsell in-house Traffic and Transportation
Group.
