Hush job for Buchan

Amec's precast concrete specialist, CV Buchan, has begun fabrication of a new acoustic wave wall for Gatwick airport. The 11m high by 400m long wall is to be used on the perimeter of new aircraft stands for Jumbo jets. A total of 433 units are being produced from five specially designed moulds. Each section of wall weighs 12 tonnes despite a weight-reducing polystyrene void running its full length. Amec Civil Engineering is main contractor under its five year pavement framework agreement with BAA.
