Bovis clinches Lewis fit out
Bovis has clinched the contract to fit out the new John Lewis
department store at the œ350 million Bluewater Retail and
Leisure Centre, near Dartford in Kent. HBG Higgs & Hill, Mowlem
and Wates were also in the chase.
Work on the contract, thought to be worth around œ20 million,
is due to begin in October. The concrete framed building comprises
a basement warehouse and three trading levels. The store is one of
the three main anchor stores at the development, along with House
of Fraser and Marks and Spencer.
Bovis' 12 month project involves the installation of all services
and associated plant, suspended ceilings, flooring and solid
partitions.
The store is due to open in spring 1999, when construction of the
150,000m2 retail and leisure scheme is complete. The developer is
Lend Lease Global Investment. Bovis Construction was appointed
construction manager for the whole project in October 1996.
