BEC calls for Silver Helmet entries

The Building Employers Confederation is calling for entries for the industry's premier safety award, the Contract Journal Silver Helmet trophy.

The award will be presented at the BEC's 25th annual safety conference in October, featuring Frank Davies, chairman of the Health and Safety Commission, as guest speaker.

The HSE's chief inspector of construction, Sandra Caldwell, will brief the conference on safety in the year 2000.

Tony Wheel, director of Tarmac Building and chairman of the BEC safety committee, will give the employers' view of how practice will shape up in the new millennium.

The HSE's imminent guidance, Fire On Construction Sites, will be tackled in the afternoon session, along with a briefing on joint fire code being produced by the Loss Prevention Council and the BEC.

A keynote ministerial address is also expected.

The closing date for entries for the Silver Helmet award is July 31.

Entry forms are available from Suzannah Thursfield at the BEC on 0171 580 5588.
