Ballast Nedam makes £11m
Ballast Nedam, the Dutch-based parent of UK construction group
Ballast Wiltshier, made a profit of £11 million (£10.6
million) in the first half of 1998 on a turnover of £590
million (£510 million).
The operating profit from Ballast's three business streams was
£4.8 million from Construction Europe, £4.5 million from
Construction International and £4.2 million from
Infrastructure.
No details were available for Ballast Wiltshier, though the group
is expected to turn in a profit in the full year.
"Margins in the UK are still competitive," said Douglas Barrat,
marketing director.
He pointed to progress in partnering, with Ballast signing
agreements with new clients Associated Octel, the petroleum group,
and Swallow Hotels.
The existing partnership with Boots the Chemist has been extended.
Ballast recently won a £43 million contract to redevelop part
of Newcastle United's football stadium.
