Late start for Durham complex

Some unforeseen difficulties in constructing a shopping complex in Durham have resulted in a one-month delay in the opening of the centre.

A spokesman for the development manager, Boots Properties plc, said that "due to the complex nature of the work and the close proximity of neighbouring houses to the site, in agreement with Boots Properties plc a revised opening date of 1 October has been agreed to accommodate these issues and client changes."

Kvaerner, the contractor on the project, had nothing further to add to the Boots statement.

The opening date for the £40 million Prince Bishops scheme in the centre of Durham has been put back from 29 August to 1 October.
