taywood wins £10m wastewater job
Taylor Woodrow has been awarded contracts worth £10 million by
Yorkshire Water to provide new wastewater treatment facilities at
Filey on the North Yorkshire coast. The contract, won through
competitive tendering under the framework agreement with Yorkshire
Water, includes a new treatment works, holding tank and pumping
station.
bristol harbourside planning submitted
An outline planning application for a £200 million commercial
and residential scheme on Bristol's Habourside has been submitted
to the city council by developer Crest Nicholson. The plan,
conceived by Arup Associates, proposes 32,200m2 of new homes,
23,000m2 of offices and a 27,600m2 leisure complex with multiplex
cinema.
bill payment has slowed says survey
Large companies have got slower at paying their bills during 1998
despite the growing campaign to encourage them to settle on time,
according to a survey by Experian which covered 115,000 companies.
In the construction sector, large companies took 76 days to cough
up, medium-sized players took 60 days to pay out, while smaller
firms settled their bills in just 55 days.
1 november deadline for late payer rules
Businesses are being given until 1 November to understand the new
Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act which came into
force on 11 June. The default credit period is 30 days from
delivery or invoice whichever is the later, and the interest rate
will be base rate plus 8 per cent.
jcb to build first overseas factory
JCB has finally confirmed that it is to build a factory in the US
for the manufacture of backhoe loaders. The plant to be build in
Savannah, Georgia at a cost of £37.5 million, is the first
manufacturing facility to be built outside the UK by JCB. Work has
already begun on the 46,450m2 factory which is expected to produce
its first machines in 1999.
manchester seeks conventional tenders
Manchester City Council is inviting expressions of interest in the
£21 million project to design and construct the Manchester
International Convention Centre in Windmill Street. The design team
will be novated to the winning contractor.
try wins £11.3m focus refurb deal
Try Construction has been awarded an £11.3 million contract to
re-clad and refurbish Focus West, a 14,500m2, nine-storey office
building at 245 Hammersmith Road, London, W6.
powerscreen sells irish subsidiary
Within days of announcing the appointment of new finance director
John Kennerley, Powerscreen, the troubled Northern Ireland engineer
has sold its Irish subsidiary Geith International for around
£7 million. The construction equipment manufacturer, which has
been bought by the management backed by funds from ICC Venture
Capital, recorded profits before tax of £787,000 on sales of
£8.4 million in 1996-97.
eric wright construction's gains
Major contract gains by Eric Wright Construction - part of the
Preston-based Eric Wright Group - during the past 12 months have
helped push turnover up 27 per cent to £51.48 million for the
year ended December 1997. Turnover for the Group was up from
£51.76 million to £54.45 million, an increase of 5 per
cent.
