Schal steeled by £37m Magna centre success

Schal has won a £37 million project management and construction management commission from the Magna Trust to redevelop the former Templeborough steelworks in Rotherham into a hi-tech interactive visitor attraction.

Magna will house a leisure and learning centre with a large amount of interactive components.

The display areas will allow dramatic views over the former steel production floor. Each gallery will be based on the main components that go into the steel making process, earth, air, fire and water.

The new entrance hall will contain the five-storey high Great Hall which will contain the ticket office, a restaurant, gift shop and exhibition areas.

The project will include a significant amount of demolition and alterations to the existing buildings to create the attraction spaces and new entrance.
