Laing wins Uzbekistan airport joint contract

John Laing Construction, in joint venture with Alarko Alsim of Turkey and Marabeni Corporation of Japan, has been awarded a £28.2m contract to upgrade and modernise three airports in the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The airports concerned are at Samarkand, Bukhara and Urgench. Work will involve the upgrading of runways and taxiways, along with the provision and/or renovation of control towers, radar buildings, passenger terminal buildings and navigation facilities.

The contract is due to start in October this year for completion in mid-2000.
