HBG Construction has been awarded an £18m contract for the
main core scheme at the Royal United Hospital in Bath. The
Dutch-owned firm saw off competition by Amec, Kier and Laing to
secure the contract.
The project includes the demolition, alteration and temporary
enabling works in addition to the construction of a new building
and the refurbishment of the existing central ward block.
Associated external works involve construction of carparking for
over 1,000 vehicles, access roads, footpaths, a main entrance and
landscaping. The new building will comprise a three- and
four-storey central development of 13 clinical departments with
mechanical and electrical plant at ground, third and fourth floor
levels.
The floor area will be some 17,800m2 and the building will feature
facing brickwork and curtain walling for the wall cladding,
profiled sheeting for the roof and aluminium framed windows.
To minimise disruption to hospital activities, the project will be
conducted in three phases and involve extensive service diversions.
Client for the project is the Royal United Hospital NHS Trust.
