Seeboard wins underground power

Seeboard Powerlink, which comprises Seeboard, BICC and ABB, has been awarded a 30-year contract worth more than £1 billion to operate, maintain, finance and renew London Underground's high voltage power distribution under a PFI contract. The contract will involve over £100 million worth of capital construction and installation work to ensure electricity supplies to the 270 stations and 400km of track.

MORRISON MAKES SOUTH AFRICAN MOVE

Morrison Construction is set to take its first contract in South Africa. The company is the preferred bidder for a £10 million, 230-bed hotel contract for Protea Hotels on the site of the Wanderers Sporting Club in Johannesburg. Morrison will manage the development of the project using local contractors.

HBG has designs on construction contract

HBG Construction is likely to design and build a multi-million pound new divisional headquarters for West Mercia Police in Worcester. At present it has only the design contract, but is expecting to win the construction contract for the 5,000m2, five-storey HQ in December.

clugston BUILDS UP RECORD TURNOVER

Clugston Construction has announced a record increase in turnover, up 26 per cent in the 12 months to the end of January 1998, to £98 million. Pre-tax profit was unchanged at £1.7 million.

epwin INCREASES PRE-TAX profits

Epwin, the building products group, increased pre-tax profits to £2.6 million in the six months to 27 June, up 13 per cent. Turnover on continuing operations was up 8 per cent.

AQUMEN APPOINTS THREE DIRECTORS TO BOARD

Aqumen, the facilities management division of John Mowlem, has appointed three new members to its Executive Board. Liam Cummins joins as business development director, Stephen Day as commercial director and Julie Wright as human resources director - all previously worked with Serco.

BUCHAN SUPPLIES TUNNEL SEGMENTS

CV Buchan, part of the Amec Group, has introduced a new service for the tunnelling industry which delivers segments to site with the packings and compression gaskets already fitted. The technique is being used for the first time on Buchan's contract with Amec Tunnelling for the supply of segments to North West Water's sewerage scheme in Workington.

TARMAC TAKES LONG-TERM LOOK AT CUSTOMERS Tarmac Construction Services has appointed Shonagh Hay as business development director. Shonagh, who previously had the same role with Tarmac Professional Services, will take on a broader role to assist TCS's focus on establishing long-term customer relationships.

KEYLINE BUILDS UP BRICK AVAILABILITYKeyline Builders Merchants has launched a dedicated bricks service, which aims to improve the range and availability of the brick stock within each region. Each branch will carry a specific stock profile and will be able to source other brick products from neighbouring branches.







ERA Technology based in Leatherhead, Surrey, has published a report 'The Impact of Contaminated Land on Buried Electric Cables'. The report advises on how to assess the risks to cables and briefly looks at the safety issues for staff working on contaminated sites.
