BOXTEXT: Hewden stuart makes a million for quarries
Hewden Stuart, which is currently changing its entire corporate
image to better portray its leading position in the plant and tool
hire market, has sold two quarries in Fife to Thistle aggregates -
a subsidiary of Ennstone - for £1,025,000 in cash.
BRANDON HIRE adds SURREY and KENT depots
Brandon Hire, a specialist in tool and catering equipment hire with
an annual turnover of £15 million, has recently acquired
Amptool Hire for £580,000 in cash. The deal, which gives the
company tool hire depots in Banstead, Wallington and West Wickham,
strengthens its position in Surrey and gives it its first depot in
Kent. Since 1994 the company's depot network has grown from 10 to
66 depots. This latest acquisition is the fifth this year. Last
year the company which sold off its powered access operation, made
an operating profit of £2.1 million from its tool hire
business and £1.1 million from its catering interests.
O&KPUTS MAJORITY OF KRUPP UP FOR SALE
German manufacturer O&K, which sold its mining business to
Terex earlier this year, is soon to see Krupp's majority
shareholding in its construction division change hands. While
unable to comment on interested parties, O&K director Gottfried
von Alten told CJ when he thought the handover would happen: "We
expect this to be signed before the end of the year." Likely
contenders for the 75 per cent stake in O&K's operation, which
manufactures tracked excavators, wheeled loaders, motor graders,
axles, hydraulic cylinders and transmissions, include Case and New
Holland. Gottfried von Alten said: "It's incorrect from a
contractual point of view to say we're selling the construction
business."
BUTLER REYNOLDS BACKS BOBCAT BUSINESS
Moore Plant Services - a plant hire company recently set up to
serve the East Midlands market - has taken delivery of
£250,000 worth of Bobcat mini-excavators from
Loughborough-based Butler Reynolds. David Moore, MD of the
business, which deals solely with Bobcat machines, indicated that
without the support of Butler Reynolds he would not have been able
to start the business.
The business first opened its doors in May.
