BOXTEXT: HBG wins northern contracts

HBG Construction has been awarded a £16.5 million contract to design and build a new building and alter an existing one at Rochdale Infirmary. The firm has also won £11 million worth of retail contracts including a £4 million Safeway store at Hedon, near Hull.

willmott dixon tipped for hilton job

Willmott Dixon is being tipped to win a £14 million contract for refurbishment work at the Hilton International Hotel in Holland Park Avenue, Notting Hill in west London. Work includes alterations, conversions, refurb and repair work and fit-out to the 614-bedroom hotel, conference and banqueting areas. The work also includes a health club including gymnasium and pool.

mace's polish arm wins mall work

Mace Polska has been appointed by Metro AG, one of Europe's largest retail operators, to manage the construction works for two out-of-town shopping malls in Poznan and Radorn in Poland under a partnership framework agreement.

Frogmore Estates with Phoenix Property and Finance has submitted plans for a proposed redevelopment of the Walton-on-Thames Town Retail Centre to create a new 22,080m2 shopping and office complex.

Haden Young, the M&E services division of the BICC group, has announced changes to its regional operational structure in London and the south east. Stuart Chapman is appointed director of the London region, John Matthews becomes director of the Midland and Southern region, while Eric Greenhalgh continues as director of the northern region and Alex Currie remains in charge in Scotland.

kvaerner in £6 million telecoms win

Kvaerner Construction has been awarded a £6 million contract by Dolphin Telecommunications for the first phase of a multi-million pound scheme for a new network of digital communications stations across Britain.

nfb urges maintenance of standards

The National Federation of Builders is urging the Government's working group looking into the setting up of an industry wide 'quality badge' or kitemark not to compromise standards. The NFB wants a code of practice for members, tougher membership criteria, a fair deal contract, a conciliation and arbitration scheme and a 10-year guarantee scheme.

citb launches on-the-job training guide

The Construction Industry Training Board has just published its Training in the Workplace guide which shows employers how to train their staff as part of their everyday work. It shows how to train employees in a way that fits in with individual and business needs, showing firms how to take responsibility for training and get the most out of it.

site inspectors' qualification launched

The first qualification specifically designed for site inspectors was unveiled by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and the Institute of Clerks of Works of Great Britain this week. The Scottish Vocational Qualification: Site Inspection level 3 will promote best practice by combining technical knowledge applied through practical experience.
