balfour kilpatrick lands egypt contract

Balfour Kilpatrick has been awarded the mechanical, electrical and civil works contract for the £26 million Al Sheikh Zayed City raw water and booster pumping station project in Eygpt. The scheme involves the design and construction of raw water intake and booster pumping station and will be undertaken in conjunction with Balfour Beatty Major Projects.

hbg wins £10m-plus of new contracts

HBG Construction has been awarded over £10 million in new contracts, including a £5.5 million project to design and build a five-storey building, with 40 flats on Chiswick High Road, London, for Persimmon Homes. It also has a £3.3 million extension project at West Thames College in Isleworth, Middlesex.

working time roadshows extended

Human resource specialist Anders Glaser Wills has extended its forthcoming roadshows regarding the new Working Time Directive due to oversubscription. The series of evening seminars will visit seven cities during the next fortnight. Kicking off in Leeds each roadshow will provide freelance workers with a layman's guide to the Working Time Legislation and how it will affect them when it is launched on 1 October 1998.

robert mcalpine breaks safety target

Sir Robert McAlpine, one of the main contractors at Sellafield, has hit the outstanding target of working one million man hours without a RIDDOR reportable accident (three-day absence). This achievement by the McAlpine team was helped by a series of initiatives to raise safety awareness. Not only was a hard-hitting video shown of current and former employees affected by site accidents, but the company also introduced a Safety Improvement Group and a Safety Suggestions Scheme.

divisional directors appointed at bbcl

Due to the expansion of its building operations throughout the UK Balfour Beatty Construction (BBCL) has appointed Alex Robertson as a divisional director of its Scottish Building Division; and Andy Thomas, Harry Townley and Dave Donaldson as divisional directors of its Northern Building Division. Peter Clist, Gerry Pape and Nick Kelly become divisional directors of its Southern Building Division.

Mowlem corporate development arrivals

New arrivals boosting Mowlem's corporate development team are Tom Dobrashian, ex-merger and acquisitions employee for Coopers and Lybrand Corporate, and Peter Pentecost, a former manager within Mowlem's process and engineering division. Whilst Dobrashian has been appointed director of corporate development, Pentecost has been made director of market development.

The latest addition to the IChemE's Conditions of Contract series: "The Orange Book", Model Form of Conditions of Contract: Minor Works Contracts, is now available. Compatible with the organisation's Red and Green books, this book is an aid to anyone involved in projects, particularly those where the Housing Grants, Construction Regeneration Act 1996 (Part II) apply.
