Housebuilding planning slated
The planning system for housebuilding came under attack last week
from Paul Pedley, MD of Redrow, who said it was going "from bad to
worse".
Redrow has found planning delays to be just as bad whether they be
on brownfield or greenfield sites, which "makes a mockery of the
Government's aim to encourage urban regeneration".
Speaking during Redrow's announcement of its annual results, Pedley
said that the plan-led housebuilding system was logical when
introduced five years ago, with maps of each county being used to
draw in areas earmarked for housing.
Pedley said: "Government is not providing a system for planning
away from local plans. If it wants 60 per cent of new houses to be
on brownfield sites, it will have to give us the where-with-all to
do it.
"We want a fast-track alternative option where all applications
would be considered on their merits."
