Scotland was in the rare position of providing the largest value of
orders in August, though the figures were distorted by Balfour
Beatty and Morrison's massive £180 million PFI hospital
project in Edinburgh.
London and South East was the next most lucrative region with Laing taking the regional top spot thanks to its £52 million worth of private commercial orders. Tarmac topped the North of England ahead of Morrison Construction where infrastructure and other public non-housing orders provided the most work.
The Midlands posted a modest score in August with Kvaerner way ahead of its nearest rival Nuttall. Kvaerner's £46 million worth of infrastructure work boosted that sector to put it a little ahead of private commercial work. Laing took a second regional top place by winning the most orders in the South West and Wales, with Tarmac the only other firm to get near the winner's total.
