Safety video aims to shock steelworkers
Good practice saves lives is the key message of a new video on
safety for steel erectors produced by BNFL and the Sellafield
construction contractors.
Safe Steel Erection covers the three main areas of concern to steel
erectors wherever they are employed: working at height, lifting
operations and falling objects.
Safe Steel Erection, now on sale nationwide, was produced for a
Sellafield training course completed by all steel erection
contractors working at the site. By appealing to the individual
contractors to consider the risks they are taking, it carries a
powerful message about the consequences to individuals who do not
consider their own or their workmates' safety.
Muir Lachlan, the resident engineer at Sellafield, said: "The video
dramatically simulates the consequences of good and bad safety
practices showing why falls, falling objects and poor lifting
operations are such a major source of death and injury on
construction sites."
