Comprehensive guide from CITB

Construction employers can find out how to implement training as part of their work with help from a new guide developed by the Construction Industry Training Board.

The Training in the Workplace Guide gives information on how to train an employee to fit in with individual and business needs, showing firms how to take responsibility for training and get the most out of it.

To keep up with changes in the industry, the guide recommends that employees read trade magazines and use construction bookshops, such as those run by the Building Centre, and the Chartered Institute of Building's Construction Books Direct.

Developed with industry, the guide can help employers plan and provide effective workplace training and assessment. It can be a useful aid for those working towards the Investor in People standard, or using the Construction Apprenticeship Scheme, National Traineeships, Modern Apprenticeships, National and Scottish Vocational Qualifications or continuing professional development programmes.

Copies of the guide, priced at £10 can be purchased from CITB's publications department. Tel: 01485 577800, or fax: 01485 577758/577753.
