Southern Electric Contracting (SEC)'s reputation for high standards
of safety has been underpinned by winning two coveted safety
awards.
The company received a Commendation in the Construction Sector
category of the RoSPA Occupational Safety Awards, while its
Electrical and Instrumentation division, SEC E&I, beat 200
other UK companies to win the Engineering Employers Federation
(EEF) Health and Safety Management Award.
Over the past two years, the company has invested in a host of new
safety initiatives such as IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety
and Health) Managing Safely training for 160 contract managers and
the development of a "model" near-miss reporting procedure.
SEC has won eight other safety awards, including the Esso
Chairman's Safety Award, Esso/ Exxon Gold Performance Award and BP
Exploration Outstanding Performance Certificate.
Colin Barnes, operations director for SEC, said: "Our employees can
be proud of their achievement in building our business safely.
"We have clearly demonstrated that both profit and safe working can
be achieved when the management and workforce are committed to it.
He added: "The safety culture that now exists within SEC will
enable us to continuously improve our performance with the goal of
zero injuries."
