gap group's autumn expansion
Scottish-based Gap Group, which is soon to open three new depots in
England - one in Doncaster and two in the Midlands - has recently
placed a £1.5 million order with Bomag for 150 vibrating
rollers. This latest order - the largest ever placed by the company
- takes GAP's total spend on plant for 1998 to £9 million. The
group's fleet of rollers now numbers 700. Although only a small
number of the current roller fleet need ROPs frames to meet
forthcoming EC legislation MD Douglas Anderson is angry at the cost
of compliance. On average each frame will cost £1,700 to fit,
almost double the cost of fitting a similar frame to a dumper.
