90-plus jobs at risk in Atlas Copco reshuffle
Around 91 jobs will be lost during Atlas Copco's restructuring of
its electric tools operations. Production of its electric hammers
is to be moved from Bedford, England to a manufacturing facility in
Winnenden, Germany.
At the same time it is moving its warehouse and distribution from
Rotterdam, Holland to a central facility in Hoeselt, Belgium. The
closing of the two operations will result in the loss of ten jobs
in Rotterdam and 81 jobs in Bedford. Certain job opportunities may
be available to existing Bedford staff within the German operation.
Erland von Redlich, president of Atlas Copco Electric Tools said:
"We will take every reasonable action to assist our employees in
achieving alternative employment either within or outside the Atlas
Copco Group."
The restructuring is expected to be completed by the end of the
second quarter of 1999.
