Sophisticated software - a must for accurate tendering

To tender accurately on the basis of a schedule of rates where a
client may list 2,500 prices, sophisticated software is a must,
said Terry Cheshire.
Clients prefer their own schedule of rates rather use the standardised national system. "The 15 boroughs and 15 insurance companies we work for all have different schedule of rates," he said. "We win work by bidding 25 per cent less than one client's rates, but 25 per cent more than the next one's figures as their standards vary so much.
"We've had a full-time analyst working for more than seven years on our software," said Cheshire. "It gives us the edge and enables us to make good margins.
"When you're doing 400 jobs a day, at a minimum charge of £12 and with an average value of £60, you must have your administration in order. Remember, we're working 24 hours a day, 365 days a year."
