Capita loses £450,000 in register fees
The furore over fees levied by the newly-formed Constructionline
has cost operator Capita £450,000 in fee income.
Constructionline is a register of vetted consultants and
contractors intended to cut down on the time and effort wasted by
firms qualifying to get on tender lists.
The service was launched in mid-July but ran into trouble when
consultants and contractors objected to the fees being charged.
Previously the registration scheme was a free service run by the
former Department of the Environment.
Since the furore, Capita has set up an advisory committee with
members of the Construction Confederation, the Constructors Liaison
Group, the Construction Industry Council, the Alliance of
Construction Products Suppliers, DETR, and a Scottish trade
association.
Capita's Bill Swan said: "All the concerns expressed by firms have
now been resolved." Swan expected the number of firms on the
register to fall "significantly," due to natural wastage.
