Bouygues wins contract worth £300m
Bouygues, the French construction group, has won a contract in Hong
Kong worth £300 million. The project involves building two
railway tunnels on the West Rail project, linking the New
Territories with Kowloon.
Shepherd Homes buys George Longden
Shepherd Homes has acquired fellow housebuilder group George
Longden. In 1992, Longden was the subject of a management buy-out.
It sells 100 properties a year and employs around 60 people.
Trafalgar house sold for £90m
Kvaerner has sold Trafalgar House Property for £90 million.
The troubled UK-Norwegian conglomerate is selling non-core assets
to reduce its £940 million debt burden. Trafalgar sold its UK
housebuilding division, Ideal Homes, to Persimmon in 1996 for
£170 million, in a bid to cut debts.
Blue circle expands in Malaysia
Blue Circle's two major purchases leave it poised to take 48 per
cent of Malaysia's cement market. It is to buy Kedah Cement, which
has an 18 per cent market share. Two weeks ago, Blue Circle lifted
its stake in APMC, the top Malaysian producer, from 50 to 100 per
cent. The total bill runs to £565 million - £265 for the
investments, plus £240 million of acquired debt.
