Kvaerner wins major southern water project


Kvaerner Construction and Brown and Root have won a £40 million contract to build a new sewage and treatment works on the Isle of Wight.

The Southern Water plant at Sandown will consist of treatment, sludge handling and storage facilities. The plant will be built to meet the European Union 'Urban Waste Water Directive.'

The work includes process design, engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. The contract is a joint venture between Kvaerner and Brown and Root with the former taking a 60 per cent share and providing construction expertise.

Brown and Root are responsible for the remainder of the contract and will take responsibility for providing the engineering design.

The project that is due for completion in December 1999 will deal with almost all of the sewage production for the Isle of Wight at the start of the new Millennium.
