Shepherd to build retail village


Shepherd has won a £22.6 million contract from Freeport Yorkshire to design and build a new Freeport Designer Outlet Village in Glasshoughton, West Yorkshire.

The retail park will offer 26,000m2 of retail space in 17 individual themed buildings to provide in excess of 150 units.

The contract includes the construction of more than 1000 car park spaces, landscaping and paved areas. The park will be built on the site of the Glasshoughton Colliery and Coking Works, near Castleford.

Visitors will enter the village through a 20m high tented structure. The architect on the project is S&P, the structural engineer is Furness Partnership, and the M&E Consultants is RW Gregory and Partners. The project is due to be completed in August 1999.
