BOXTEXT: The 12-point plan that ended the dispute
1. Both parties to immediately address the obvious problem of
industrial relations on the JLE.
2. Both parties to immediately address the problem of progress and
productivity on the project.
3. Commitments be given to the prompt and fair response to
grievances raised through procedure and official, i.e. formal,
channels.
4. Health and safety problems be addressed via:
- AEEU Health and Safety unit
- the Health and Safety Executive
and future close liaison with back-up expertise if
necessary.
5. Shop stewards to give unreserved commitment to abide strictly to
JIB (Joint Industry Board) procedures and cease unofficial
action.
6. Forums to be established to: - achieve harmonious industrial
relations - re-establish effective use of JIB procedures - maintain
productivity progress returns
7. Paul Corby, AEEU's national officer, to oversee the forum and
give support. Frank Westerman (AEEU convenor) to work to a clear
brief (joint).
8. Shop stewards and workforce to accept the introduction of a
night shift at London Bridge.
9. Shop stewards to give categorical assurances to management on
the right to transfer labour (with appropriate notification to take
place).
10. '12 transferees' to return to work at London Bridge.
11. Joint agreed statement on return to work settlement for press
purposes. No victories/clearing a new way forward approach for
JLE.
12. Joint Shop Stewards and supervisors courses and liaison.
